Deep Whiskey
Flavor, Engineered
We stood in the high Mojave just after a rare spring deluge; the air thick with mineral-heavy petrichor, oily malt, and honey-glazed pears. This weight settled into the scent of sun-baked timber from an abandoned hillside mine, where the aroma of dusty shoring met the ripe, split-skin sweetness of dark pluots and a medicinal wisp of dried sage. Water invited us deeper into the landscape, revealing delicate desert blooms and sun-baked desert wild grapevines clinging to a canyon wall. An intensifying grain-spice took hold of the palate, surrendering finally to the long, prickly "hug" of a cholla cactus—a peppery rye heat softened by peppermint and the elegant, woody tannins of oversteeped black tea.
